Grad Chapter: Honest moment

Dear Inspirations,

As of December 10th 2016, I am officially done with graduate school. (Inserts a fist pump) I am free from school!! I've graduated once again and this time it was different. I remember how amazing and stress free it was to graduate for the first time. There was so much adrenaline pumping and I looked at the world as a ocean. I was ready to take the world by storm.

Fast forward four years.... I'm married, I'm a mom and I guess you could say the world feels different.

Saturday felt amazing don't get me wrong. BUT the feeling was different. I felt a sense of pride, joy and true completion. I am the first one in my family mom and dad side to go to college. I was the first one to get my bachelors and currently the only one. I was also the first one to get my masters. I'm not saying this to brag. I'm saying this because I feel extremely grateful. Undergraduate I felt like I did it for my dad and my sisters. Graduate school was for me. I started the program single, but I ended it married and with a son.
So much growth as a woman.

Time flies and life does not wait for you to get ready!

Even though I graduated Saturday.... I am yet unemployed at this exact moment. (just typing that makes me cringe)
Despite being unemployed.. I know that greater is coming. I tell myself this daily and some days are harder to believe than others.
I will be the first to say that its very hard when it seems like nothing is looking up.

I'll be real honest and say that.. the weeks leading up to graduation I felt hopeless, discouraged, and really down and out. Everyone was asking "How do you feel are you excited?" I had to fake it.
I was having a hard time looking at graduation as an accomplishment, because of my current job situation.

I was trying really hard to shake it. I was having a inner battle.  I have those moments all the time. I try really hard not to let it effect my personal life, but it does.

I'm working on that as a person.

I know in months to come things might get tough, but I also believe that God will make a way.
He always does. Some how I'm always okay.

I believe in God.

I have some amazing people in my life that don't let me beat myself up.
I have real friends in my corner rooting for me.
I have a wonderful husband and a son who loves me dearly. Not for what I have, but for who I am.
Because of those things I must go on.

I closed yet another chapter of my life.
It's time for a new one.

Only God knows what's next for me. Whatever it is I AM READY.
I'm going to focus in and get ready for my blessings.

This blog is for me as a reminder of where I am in my life. It is also for you.
If you feel like giving up... DON'T
If you feel like you aren't standing in the right place... YOU ARE
If you feel like you should stand on faith and do something else ...DO IT
If you feel like you are struggling and no one knows how you feel... I DO
If you feel like things won't get better... THEY WILL

Until next time

She's a GOAL digger

“I’m going to get my life together”.

You know there is an app for that.
No, there isn’t an app for that, but imagine if there was!
Geesh, looking at my goal list for 2016… and if I am being truthful I must say I slacked all year.
Goals are always great to have, but what’s a goal with no plan of execution?
It’s just words with no real meaning.
Life has a funny way of making you feel like you’re not where you need to be.

Looking at my goal list makes me feel like I failed myself.
“Jasmine, you had 365 days to complete your goals what happen?”
Looking at it again makes me feel like I lied to myself all year.
But the truth of the matter is “Life happens”

I knew when I set some of those goals it would be almost impossible or very hard to complete.
Some of them were  just outlandish. “Loose 100 lbs”
I mean I know that might sound doable to some people, but for most of the year I was pregnant so.. (go figure).

We never think about all of the goals we did accomplish though.
One of my 2016 goals was to get married (DONE)
Move into a bigger space (DONE)
Graduate with my MPA (in the works 12.10.16)
DearJasmineP  an official doing business name (DONE)
Get closer to God (ongoing goal)

See I wasn’t on social media the whole year. I was out in the streets making things happen (lol)

Speaking of social media... I think this is the root to not completing goals.
In efforts to get my life together I am slowly going to be taking big breaks from social media. This week I deleted my Twitter app.
I replaced it with a productive app. (Water reminding app).
Social media is a silent GOAL KILLER.
Yea, I said it.
Think about how much time we spend being noisy... (I'm included).
I'm going to work on cutting back.

My friends and I have been talking about getting our life together for 2017!
I am with that movement man!
That’s one thing about the people in my circle they keep me inspired, motivated, and constantly laughing.
Shout to “The Girls”

I am going to get things in line.

This blog is just a small reminder that life is going to happen and sometimes it won’t be in your control.
Just because you didn’t meet all of your 2016 goals doesn’t mean you failed.
2016 taught me that in order to reach a goal one must have a TRUE plan of execution.
Not just scribbled words on a note pad. A true plan of action.

This one is for those goal diggers! Let’s set those goals and make it happen!
Let's hold each other accountable for making 2017 a better year.
Set goals. Make a plan. Execute. (in that order).

Because God works

Dear Inspirations,

Why is it that when we are going through we have a hard time believing it's going to work out?

It's not until after its worked out that we are able to relax and rejoice in what God has done for us.

I don't want to be that person that's worried that God won't answer my prayers. In the midst of my test and in the midst of my storm I want to already be rejoicing that he has brought me out.

I want to be so rooted in God that my faith lets me see it already worked out.
I want it to become such a routine where I don't have to worry.

Why can't we trust God? When our whole world is upside down, we must believe that he will fix it.

To many times as humans we sit and wonder "how am I going to make it, how will I get through this"

Today I remind you that God has already worked it. Your life is going as planned. God has heard your cry. God has heard your prayer. No matter what the situation is.. Know that God has went ahead and answered. It's all in a matter of timing. We ask for so much and sometimes he just wants us to be patient.

Will you believe God today?
Will you believe that your blessing is just  on the other side of that test?
Yes it might be hard and we might not want to go through it, but believe that it's already done!

Happy Monday!

The need for change

Dear Inspirations,

"I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic, for which it stands one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all"
We recited this pledge everyday in school but now does it mean anything?
I want to believe it still means everything.
I want to believe that America is still the best place to live.
"The land of the free and the home of the brave"
This is what America stands for right?
Or at least this is what they wanted us to believe.
Honestly, right now I'm having a hard time believing that.
We've experienced so much crime, so many innocent people being killed and so much hate.
Why so much? Haven't we endured enough?
I feel like we've been setback a few decades where violence was the only option.
I feel like some are just creating a reason to shoot.
We are experiencing so many violent killings. I'm not just talking about black lives I'm talking about all lives.
It's sad how you can't even go to a church without the possibility of being shot.
You can't go to the club, you can't go to the movies and you sure can't be driving around without the possibility of being shot.
America has became a scary place to live.
It's become a war zone.
It's become a place where there is no justice and there is no peace.
Growing up they taught us that America was where everyone wanted to come.
America the land of dreams.
America the place where you could be free.
Yet today it seems as though America isn't really free at all.
Everyone wants to make it JUST about race.
This isn't just about race, it's about everything.
It's about hate, it's about injustice, it's about everything.
There's a serious need for change.
There are issues that need to be addressed.
No one wants to talk about it.

Today I write to you in hopes that you will be apart of the change. That you will not only become  aware but also conscious of what is happening around you. That you will do something. That you will stand up and be apart of change.

As Biggie  once said "we can't change the world unless we change ourselves

Until we meet again

The wait

Dear Inspirations,

She was tired of waiting in the wing.
She was tired of being the one unseen.

You ever thought about just taking all you had and just running with it?

Yea me either.
She wanted to do something different.
She wanted to be in another light.

You ever thought about just forgetting your morals and values?
You know saying yes to everything you once said "I'll never do that".

 Yea, me either.
She wanted to feel the passion behind waking up and clocking in at 8.
She wanted those beach vacations.

You ever thought about all the possible ways to make it?
You ever wished that silver spoon existed for you?

Yea me either.
She wanted more.
She wanted to make a difference.

You ever found yourself in deep thought about everything?
You ever said "I'm ok" knowing you weren't?

She wanted to repeat over and over that she wasn't drowning.

She wanted to be her own lifeguard.
She rehearsed it and it sounded believable.

I'm fine. I'll be ok. Yea I know.
Help is on the way. Better days are ahead. She heard it all.

Yet she waited in the wings.
Yes she waited unseen.
That person is me and the answer to those questions are yes.

Make someone's day

Dear Inspirations,

I spoke with a friend yesterday about a number of things. Mainly this person spoke about how at times they do things for people and they don't expect anything in return. I could agree with that statement whole heartedly.

The person also, said that at times it would be nice if someone thought of them the way they thought of others.

Could you imagine a world where everyone thought of someone else besides themselves?

I think that could possibly could bring world peace. Somehow people might react different. Somehow people might wake up in a better mood. Think about.

Whenever it's Christmas and someone gets you a gift that you didn't expect at all.
How does that make you feel?
Happy right?
What about when you find some money on the ground?
What about when someone says... "I like that shirt"
You feel like "man I am having a great day"
What about the time someone offers to pay for your food and you say "no I am ok"

And they do it anyway. These are the moments that the universe needs more of. These are the moments that could change your life or someone else’s.

I am a believer in random acts of kindness.
I am also a strong believer in showing gratitude to others.

Do we know this statement to be true?

WE ARE ALL GOING THROUGH LIFE.
Why not help make someone else’s life a little bit better?

I am not saying go out and spend your paycheck on your rude coworker.
I am not saying give a compliment to ever person you see.
I am also not saying go without for another individual.
I am simply saying...

Think of someone else.
Think of a way to help someone in need.
Think of how you can possibly make someone’s day.

P.s. It’s almost Friday.

Yours Truly

Proof

Dear Inspirations,

In the misdt of me not having the best week of my life I reached a breakthrough of some sort.
I know this might not mean  much to you, but it means everything to me.
One of my post on Instagram reached 105 likes.
I assume a lot of people could relate to the post.
I must agree! It was one of those YES moments for me as well.
As I stated before I never created the page for the likes, I created it to help myself.
I considered it to be open therapy.
Once I continued posting  I realized it was also helping others.
When I say others I mean people that sometimes need an extra kick in motivation.
I am honestly proud of the growth in numbers that the page reaches daily.
You can say that I feel a sense of graditude when people comment saying "I needed this" or "right on time".
Moments like that reinterate that DearJasmineP serves its true purpose.
To inspire. To motivate. To give hope. To share truths.
I  know that I have been facing a lot of trials this week. Mentally and emotionally, but its always a storm before the calm right?

I know that I am facing these situations to make me a stronger person.
Some day I am sure I will get to write the world's best selling novel that will allow me to add moments like this.

You know those "I came from nothing.... One room... roaches.. and we didn't have any running water".
I think those stories are all similar to my story minus the roaches and the running water.

This blog is just to say thank you to all of the people that follow and like  DearJasmineP.
You are appreciated.
The struggle is going to end one day.
The struggle is worth it.
The struggle can't last forever.

Cross Roads

Dear Inspirations

Please know that all your efforts aren't going in vain, I know you might not see what's happening right now.

"Your life is falling apart and falling together at the same time"

I ask myself to sometimes what am I doing?

How does this correlate with the big plan?

I to get discourage, I to start to feel like I'm going through the motions.

This week I challenge you to believe that your on the right path.

Of course the road looks dusty, the street signs might be missing, your car might be almost out of gas but you must keep going.

This is so hard to type its even hard to say out loud. I'm battling with my inner self as we speak.

I can. You can. We will.

Thank you to my friend who reminded me of my dreams and encouraged me to keep going.

Protected

Dear Inspirations,

Often we have trouble finding the joy in small things I know I do sometimes.
This morning I woke up late and I was really in a funk at first like "crap I'm going to be late for work" Being late sometimes could be God's protection from something.

Sometimes being late is a sign that you need to go to bed earlier. It's for you to decide though.

On my morning drive today there were two accidents both of them could have easily been me.
Today I choose to believe that me being late was God's protection on my life.

Yes I was late for work but I am also alive and well. I believe that's enough to be happy about and enough to smile about.

It's Thursday one day stands between us and the weekend!

If you were looking for a reminder here it is. Live in the small joys. Even if it causes you to be late.

The notebook

Dear Inspirations,

This is for anyone that thinks love doesn't exist are that the fairytale that you desire doesn't exist. We all want love even if we don't say it or even if the past we knew as love was a little dark. My personal experience in love was pretty rocky until now. I never really knew that I could even feel this way and the feelingwould be so amazing. Even at this exact moment  that it's hard to describe.

From the moment we met I know for sure that I knew he was the one. We were on our first date and it just felt really weird but not in a bad way. I couldn't explain it but at that moment I described it as an "array of emotions". The date went well and the dates after that were even better.

How did we meet?  I met Adeola through the help of my cousin and we instantly clicked. His pick up line was so cute on my profile bio I said I was "almost perfect" he responded with "your perfect" from that moment I knew he was the guy for me. Without going into to many details Addy is the perfect man for me because of all of the qualities he posses.

He is everything in a man that I ever wanted. You know how you meet some people and your like well I don't like this or that..  or they do such and such to make you mad all the time. Or maybe you disagree on a lot of things. Well this is totally the opposite. Now of course we have our fights and we disagree but the love really surpasses the arguments. His personality and my personality go hand and hand. It's almost like God really knew and crafted him with me in mind.

So here's what you really came here for... The proposal.

I remember that night the weather didn't permit for our original plans (The Field of Lights)  so instead We went to dinner at one of our favorite restaurants (Kona Grill). He was the perfect gentlemen all night as usual, When dinner was over he insisted on getting a red box movie.

He rode around to three different ones looking for the movie of his choice. When we got home he put the movie in and it was The Notebook. I wanted to cry instantly because it's my favorite movie. We watched the movie and right at the  the scene of the guy proposing he got up and got on his knee.

"I love you and I want to be with you for the rest of my life, you make me a better person each day and I want you to be my wife. He said some more sweet stuff, but I was in such a shock that I cried.

Then the words we all wait our whole life to hear came off his lips "Will you marry me"? At that moment I said yes in my mind without one reservation. I knew I wanted forever, I knew I wanted him to be the father of my kids. Names picked and all.

I said yes!! Adeola is going to be my husband and I can't wait to be his wife!

Our love is unique because it didn't take us years to figure out that we wanted to be together forever. It's so true when people say you know when you meet the one. I'm sure you have questions on when the date is? What are the colors and what the plan is. Currently, we have a date in mind. No further details have been confirmed.

I look forward to spending my life with him and everything that comes with it.

I wrote this blog in hopes to inspire you to keep your heart open to true  love. Believe me when I say it will come. In my case it came when I least expected it. Personally, I was ready to give it up, call it quits, and get a dog.

But then Love called me and I answered and the rest is still being written.

Me: Our love is Almost Perfect
Him: It is perfect.
Me: It is.

"So it's not gonna be easy, it's gonna be really hard. And we're gonna have to work at this everyday, but I wanna do that because I want you. I want all of you, forever. You and me. Everyday.”  - The Notebook

Ps: Stay tuned for #TheOguntugawedding

More.

Dear Inspirations,

The more I think about it, the more I hate this.
The more it fustrates me.
The more I want to be in another place.
The more that I need life to hurry and fix itself.
The more I need GOD to fix this for me.
The more I think about it, the more I hate this.

I know whatever is up next for me has to be better than just this.
It has to be a better day a head of me.
Life must be getting ready to take a turn.
It has to be.

The more it fustrates me.
The more I want to be in another place.
The more I want more
The more I must find a way to leave.

That's what I tell myself.
Just has to be another way.

Forgive me for my moment.

Hope (Two years)

Dear Inspirations,

Yesterday marked two years that I graduated from college and began my journey as a real adult. Graduation had so many emotions running through my body that day. I think for the most part I was extremely excited and nothing could take that joy away from me.

Well, two years later I am still not where I want to be in my career. I work a job that isn't to rewarding at times and most of the days it feels like a chore that I have to do. I have been applying for two years literally and nothing has really looked up. Yes, it's very discouraging at times to keep going but somehow week after week I go. Can you imagine week after week applying and hearing nothing? Can you imagine getting those letters "blah blah blah, thank you for applying we found a better canadate blah blah"? Yea, I have seen so many of them in the past two years.

Yesterday marked my two years post grad and it also felt like it marked a turning point in my life. I went on a interview for a company and a position that I know I am qualified to do. The interview went well and at the moment I felt hopeful. Yesterday I found hope. Now don't get me wrong I am Positive Patty and Motivational Mandy most days but in my mind sometimes I am I often fighting
myself thinking like Negative Nancy and Down Debbie. I believe that's human and that we all feel like that sometime.

I don't know if I got the job yet and I won't find out until January but that moment gave me hope.

I challenge you to find hope. To move forward in your life and keep applying yourself. The world is a cruel place at times but look for hope. To all of my grads live in this moment and don't ever give up.

DearJasmineP Gifts for Xmas

Dear Inspirations,

This weekend I had the privilege to volunteer at the George R. Brown Convention Center. It was such a joy to be a part of such an awesome event 20 years running. I remember years ago being one of the kids that received a toy in the audience. I remember how it made me feel inside to have someone give me a Christmas present. As I stood on the food line adding wieners to buns and putting chicken nuts on plates it gave me so much life.

As you know I started a shirt campaign in hopes to make enough money to bless a family or individual with something for Christmas. Well, the first set of shirts didn't go as planned and honestly apart of me wanted to give up. I kinda felt defeated, but then I realized that maybe my shirt goal of 75 was to high and sometimes you have to start small. So I relaunched the campaign with a goal of 10 shirts and I lowered the donation amount. Within two days we made the goal!! It gave made me so happy inside that We raised $53!

After we reached the goal I had to figure out how I was going to get a family nominated. I social media buzzed as usual and  in two days I received the first email. I was up late that night and I had just said "I'm going to sleep". When I read that email about 3 precious kids in need my heart was moved so much that I couldn't go to sleep. I had to do something and it was bigger than just the 53$ so the next day I made a few phone calls and tried to see what I could find.

That's when I found out about the Toy Drive, I knew it happened in Houston every year but I wasn't sure when. I signed them up and I even signed myself and Young Ladies of Elegance up to volunteer.

I looked forward to the event for the following week and as time got closer I only hoped that the kids would be able to make it.

They did!!! Their mom had no idea what the event was or who even signed her up. She explained to me that she is working two jobs to make sure that they have a good Christmas. I watched tears fill her eyes and I watched her beautiful kids smile.

That moment changed my life forever. Don't get me wrong I have been giving all year and it made me happy but nothing was like the smile on their faces. They hugged me like I had known them forever they were holding my hands like I was their big sister. The event went on and we hung out when I wasn't serving food.

At the end they got their toy, took a picture with Santa and got their faces painted.

Giving from the heart is what I know I am here to do. Honestly, they can have the 9-5 and the meet the deadlines. I just want to travel the world changing lives and giving to people that's when I am at my happiest.

I will be visiting those kids again on Christmas Eve with another Christmas gift with the funds from the shirt campaign.

Thank you to everyone that donated and gave to the cause. A big thank you to Shelia Jackson Lee and Young Ladies of Elegance/Young Men of Character. Also a thank you to the person that nominated the family. Last but not least Thank you to Carolina Rodriguez #CarosavesChristmas and Adeola Oguntuga for believing in me.

I hope that you felt inspired enough to help someone in need or just put a smile on someone's face.

Love JasmineP.

Reflections of October

Dear Inspirations,

As the month of October comes to a rapid close, I can only feel an array of emotions. in 27 days I learned more about myself than I thought I would. The idea of giving excites me and I spend a lot of time trying to give. I assume it to be my role in society and when I'm giving I am at my happiest.

While life this month seems to have flew by I found my self bask in in the goodness of small joys. When I choose not to measure my life up against other perople. I now  know that I am doing pretty darn good. People can tell you all day but until it hits you is when it really sinks in.

I can't tell you if it is the change of events in my life that has me feeling the way I do but I will say that I have throughy enjoyed October.

I've kept a close knit friendship with the people who really matter in my life. It's not that others don't matter to its just that some choose to be who they are.  This month I learned not to force it, Man it sounds so easy coming out. But forcing it has been my way for the longest time.
What happens when you chill? Sometimes the chips stack up and things go like you wanted them to.

Today I took one step closer to the next move on my monoply board. Grand prize coming soon.

In other news guess who's tuning older in 3 days? Me.
100 days ago I was freaking out about it and even kind of upset.
But today I must say "I'm ready for the next level of my life".

Whatever it entails I'll be merry with it. I know life will bring storms and there will be times when I feel like giving up but because of what I believe and who I serve I can't.

I won't.

Thank you to those in my circle who put up with me on a daily bases. The people that love me weather I have $2.00 or 20,000.

So before I blow out the candle on my imaginary cake. This time I would like to make an open wish.
I wish for happiness, love and most of all a open heart to accept what ever happens.

Closes eyes***** Blow........

Cancer Awareness

Dear Inspirations

The past 10 days of the October Gratitude challenge have been great. I've thoroughly enjoyed giving to others and making them feel good. At the same token I have been working on a Cancer Awareness Gala. Working on the Gala has taught me a lot about myself and about others.

I realize I love planning events. I love watching things come together from the ground up.

This year we have 15 cancer survivors ranging from the ages of 6-75. I have worked closely to contact them, and keep them updated on the Gala. It has been a task and a challenge at times.

I guess I never really realize how detrimental cancer could be until a couple of months ago. I had heard of people having cancer but no one that was close to me. In August, My best friend lost her father to cancer a couple of months ago another found out about cancer. Each time I wished there was something I could say besides "It will be ok, or I'm here for you. Losing someone can be extremely tough but to lose them to a disease that you might not have been able to prevent is even worse.

With this month being Cancer awareness month I am so grateful that I was able to help put together an event. The gala will honor people that have survived cancer and a salute to those who have lost their fight.

As I worked on this event I've felt so much strength from each one of the survivors.

I've felt courage, love and hope.

I've felt empowered.

I was able to donate a dress to one of the survivors that I really wanted to wear but it didn’t fit.

Talking with one of the survivors she said that she didn’t consider herself a survivor because she was going to get hit by a bus or die from cancer.

That statement touched my heart.

What do you say to someone after that?

While some people have lost their lives I do believe that anyone that is currently fighting cancer and yet alive is a SURVIVOR.

I hope that I am never diagnosed with Cancer and I hope that they find a cure for it sooner than later.

This blog is to inspire you to keep going.

Know that your situation could be worse.

This is not the end.

You can make it.

I believe in you.

P.S- Stay tune for pictures.
